Hidden Truths: Expert Panel Discussion

Hidden Truths: Exposing Human Trafficking and Exploitation of Youth in Our Backyard

October 9th 6:30-8:00 at Woodbury Lutheran Church, 7380 Afton Rd, Woodbury, MN 55125

Human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world, and online exploitation is growing at an alarming rate. Often seen as a distant issue that happens in other countries or big cities, the fact is  that youth in our very own communities are being targeted. Do you know how it’s happening so that you can help prevent it?

Corrie’s House, in collaboration with C.A.S.T. (Citizens Against Sexual Trafficking), is sponsoring an important educational event aimed at exposing truths about who is being targeted, tactics that are being used, signs that someone may be exploited or trafficked, and resources that are available to help.

On Wednesday, October 9th, we invite you to join us for “Hidden Truths: Exposing Human Trafficking and Exploitation of Youth in Our Backyard” at Woodbury Lutheran Church. This FREE educational event brings together local experts who are actively working to prevent and combat youth trafficking and exploitation in our community.

What to Expect:

The evening will feature an expert panel of professionals with extensive experience in understanding and addressing exploitation and human trafficking. Our panelists will provide insights into what exploitation and human trafficking looks like in the Twin Cities area and share actionable strategies on how we, as a community, can help protect our youth.

Panelists Include:

  • Lindsay Kolquist – Social Worker for Tartan High School

  • Tonya Lenox – Safe Harbor East Metro Regional Navigator

  • Laura Mulliken – Executive Director of Trafficking Justice

  • Paul Stenglein – Sergeant in the East Metro Human Trafficking Task Force

The panel discussion will be facilitated by Ashley Moore, Executive Director of C.A.S.T., with an introduction from Renée Boehme, Executive Director of Corrie’s House.

Our panelists will answer critical questions such as:

  • Who is most at risk for exploitation?

  • What tactics are being used?

  • What are the signs that someone may be experiencing exploitation?

  • How can parents and community members protect children?

  • What resources are available for those affected by exploitation?

We know this topic is uncomfortable, but we hope you’ll get uncomfortable with us in order to be empowered to stop exploitation in its tracks.

How You Can Get Involved:

This event is free and open to the public, and we strongly encourage you to attend—whether you’re a parent, educator, community leader, or simply someone who wants to learn how to make a difference. Bring family and friends so they, too, can become advocates for prevention.
