Recap: The Power of 100 Women

This past month, Corrie’s House was honored to be selected by Power of 100 Women - Greater Stillwater, alongside Yellow Ribbon Alliance and Limitless Cycling, to educate attendees on our respective missions and to gain support for the work we’re doing. The evening brought 160 women together who came to support local organizations and amplify the power of their collective contributions to create a greater impact. Together, we were united by our shared purpose of making a difference in the lives of others in our community. At the end of the event, Corrie’s House was humbled to be selected as their recipient of a $10,000 award to support survivors of human trafficking.

This night was so much more to us than the generous award that we received. It was an opportunity to raise awareness of the troubling facts that human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world, that Minnesota is among the leading states for child trafficking, and that it is happening in every community, including our own. It was evident by the faces of so many that this was a shocking revelation, and we were thankful for the opportunity to bring this critical issue to light in order to spark conversations, build awareness, empower our community to combat this crime, and to support those who’ve been victimized by it.

The Shocking Truths of Child Trafficking

During our presentation, we highlighted that child trafficking is not happening the way most of us may think. Eighty five percent of youth who are trafficked know their trafficker; It is someone they trusted within their own community circle. We shared that many are being targeted and groomed online and in the privacy of their own homes and that parents must be talking to youth early and often to help them recognize the signs and stop it in its tracks.

We also talked about the significant gaps in care that exist to support those who’ve been entrapped. There simply aren’t enough beds or services to help survivors recover from their trauma or rebuild their lives. We were able to share how Corrie’s House is opening the first and only long term group residential program in the Twin Cities that is exclusively dedicated to supporting youth who’ve been trafficked.

The Outpouring of Support

It was so heartwarming to see the outpouring of support by so many women who were deeply moved by this issue and who wanted to make a difference in these young lives. h. We were so Children can be exposed to online risks almost immediately, and there are people out there actively seeking to connect with them.

The Impact a Community Can Make

We are so grateful to Power of 100 Women for providing us with a platform to share our important message, and we are thankful to all 160 women who attended this event and offered their support. It was a shining example of the collective impact that a community who comes together can have in one night. TOGETHER, we are making a difference!
