Breaking the Silence: Mobilizing Communities
Dear Friends,
May marks two important opportunities to raise awareness for Foster Care Month as well as Mental Health Month. We want to recognize all of the professional and family caregivers who serve those who’ve been afflicted with mental health or who are in need of safe care and housing.
Young survivors of sexual exploitation and trafficking are in great need of both of these services. They’ve often experienced complex trauma that requires specialized, trauma-informed therapy to help them recover and heal. Many also face homelessness and are in need of the basic needs of a safe home. Sadly, the available options to support either of these foundational needs is quite limited, and finding a path out of their circumstances is extremely challenging.
Corrie’s House will be the first residential facility in the Twin Cities to provide long term residential care with comprehensive services specifically tailored to support minors who’ve experienced or are at risk of sexual exploitation and trafficking.
Building off of these foundational support systems, we’ll also provide educational advancement, life skills building, healthy relationship skills, job readiness, and employment resources so that participants can live their dreams, equipped with the confidence and skills to rebuild their lives free from exploitation.
In 2024, we set very clear and significant goals to move us closer to opening our home. In the coming weeks, we look forward to sharing some exciting news toward this effort!
With anticipation for accomplishing these milestone achievements, Corrie’s House is extending a heartfelt call to action for more volunteers to support us in our mission to bring transformative care to young survivors. Our volunteers have been a cornerstone of our success from the very beginning, and our need to expand these efforts is quickly growing! There are many options to volunteer: Are you handy with a hammer, nails, paintbrush? We need your help! Do you love being in the garden or beautifying the grounds? We can use your talent! How about planning events or organizing clothing drives? We’ve got a great project for you!
One of the most significant volunteer opportunities we have now is the role of Volunteer Coordinator. This role is instrumental in helping us to grow our volunteer program and to help ensure that it runs smoothly and effectively. Our Volunteer Coordinator will help recruit volunteers as well as respond to volunteer inquiries to help match them to the right opportunities as well as to coordinate volunteer activities and events. If you’re someone who is organized, loves connecting people, is compassionate, and wants to make a world of difference in the lives of vulnerable youth, this could be just right for you! Not sure how you can help? Reach out! We can talk about it.
Please reach out to us at info@corrieshouse.org for more information about volunteer opportunities and how you can get involved. We look forward to hearing from you!
With gratitude and hope,
Renée
